WORKING STUDENT
As a leader in the sporthorse industry, Wachter Horses is committed to the future of our sport, and as such, we are excited to offer extensive educational offerings to help develop the next generation of industry leaders.

Our working student positions are geared for up and coming training professionals who have a passion for the Equine Industry. As a working student, you will have access to training experiences in theory and practice through daily hands-on experience with top horses. There are two streams for working students explained below, along with the compensation package.

Rider program
An opportunity to be part of an exciting training and competition stable and learn from industry leaders. The working rider program teaches the foundations of training horses for showjumping. This stream will give you first hand experience riding young horses and well-schooled horses, while learning the fundamentals of proper stable management & horse care.

We understand that riding is an important part of a working student position, which is why field board and 2x/weekly lessons on your own horse are included.
BREEDING & EQUINe
MANAGEMENT
Strategic young horse development, basic stallion management, and broodmare breeding are all included in this in-depth look at the life-cycle of a sporthorse breeding program. This concentration will give you hands-on opportunities to work with young horses from foals to three-year-olds and teach the foundational building blocks young horses will utilize for the rest of their lives. Learn how to manage the health care for competition horses, daily operational needs for a world-class facility, and gain the experience necessary to launch a career in the sporthorse world.

COMPENSATION
Hands-on Training
Offering hands-on learning opportunities from some of the top sporthorse professionals. Perfect for college students looking to bolster the resume with “real-world” experience at a world-class sporthorse operation after graduation or a college alternative for young but experienced equestrians to dive straight into the sporthorse world.
Regular Education Sessions
Education is an integral piece of our internships, and as such, we devote regular meetings exclusively towards your education. These meetings will focus on specific educational topics for about 45 mins followed by an additional 15 minutes of general conversation about the internship process and setting attainable weekly goals to achieve your objectives for this internship.
Regular Observation Time
While you will pick-up many educational pieces throughout the week, a regularly scheduled observation time allows you time to focus learning the inner-workings of the farm’s operations such as stallion collections, young horse starting techniques, and vet exams.
Housing
On-site, non-smoking housing is available with basic utilities included

Monthly pay.

6 Day work week.

Horse Board
-
Working Students & Interns- are permitted to bring a horse to Wachter Stables for field board which is included as a benefit of being a working student. Stall board may be available (dependent on availability) if the working student covers the difference in board rates.
Lessons
-
Students receive 2x/week lessons respective of their position (i.e. riding or handling).
